Ed Huffer
May 20, 1942 — August 3, 2025
M. Ed Huffer, age 83, passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 3, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born on May 20, 1942 to Morton and Gladys (Minear) Huffer. Ed was a proud graduate of Warsaw High School, class of 1960. He would marry his wife Suzanne Mollenhour on August 27, 1960.
He dedicated much of his career to the family business, Huffer Foundry, alongside his brothers, until 1968. He then transitioned to R.R. Donnelly, where he served as a Manager of Quality for 36 years until his retirement in 2004. In addition, Ed was a pillar of the community, serving in the National Guard and as a member of American Legion Post 49 in Warsaw. He was also a member of the Warsaw Fire Department, where he volunteered as a firefighter.
Ed's spirit was as bright as his humor. He was known as the light of the room, a funny and witty presence who was always ready to share a joke. He took on the role of family advisor and voice of reason, offering guidance and support to those around him. An incredibly social person, Ed enjoyed breakfast meetings with friends at the American Legion Post 49 and was a longtime member of Breading’s “breakfast club.” He was a lifetime member of the Warsaw Elks Lodge #802 and a former member of the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club. A devoted supporter of Warsaw Tiger Football, he was a familiar face in the bleachers on Friday nights, always cheering on the team.
Ed's interests extended beyond his community service; he was an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. In his leisure time, he could often be found on the golf course or fishing on the lake. Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events, nurturing close ties with his family.
Ed is survived by his wife, Suzanne Huffer, of Warsaw; children Melanie (Chad) Wilhite of Warsaw, Kelly (Dr. Scott) Shipley of Syracuse, and Beth (Chris) Cummins of Warsaw as well as their grandchildren: Julia (Andy) Tuinstra, Chandler (Ashley) Tenney, Ross (Molly) Wilhite, Brittney (Brent) White, Chase Tenney, Cayla Cummins, Cole Cummins, and Christian (Taylor) Cummins. He also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Cassidy; and in-laws Carol Huffer, and Janet and Dave Kelley.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Robert Huffer, Max Huffer, and Bill Huffer.
A Life Celebration visitation will be held on August 7, 2025, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Titus Funeral Home in Warsaw, located at 2000 Sheridan Street. His funeral service will be conducted on August 8, 2025, at 11 AM, with Pastor Glenn Hall officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service starting. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Warsaw American Legion Post 49 will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
